Big Daddy’s Smokehouse, 220 S. Main St., is hosting its fifth annual community Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.
“We’re really thankful that we work for ourselves,” owner Steve Bryan said. “We want to give back to the community that makes it possible to do what we do. We’re thankful and we want to pass it on.”
Bryan said over the past few years, between 100 to 150 people have attended the free dinner.
He and his staff, who volunteer their time on Thanksgiving Day to prepare and serve the meal, will be ready when the doors open with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, rolls, tea and pumpkin pie.
“It’s a good little plate,” Bryan said.
The annual gathering has turned into a family event, where Bryan says he opens up the restaurant to anyone who wants to come down and enjoy good food, fellowship and watch football on TV.
“My family comes down to eat and hang out,” Bryan said. “I have four little kids. It’s good for them to see what I do every day and to teach them a little bit about being thankful.”
Across town, at the Noble Public Library, 204 N. Fourth St., First State Bank employees will serve up a traditional Thanksgiving meal in the Community Room. Two seatings are planned — one at 11 a.m. and the other at noon.
This is the fourth year that First State Bank has provided 200 meals free of charge to the public, in keeping with bank Chairman and CEO Kim King’s philosophy of genuinely caring about customers and community alike.
